Iran was deemed responsible for the 1996 Khobar Towers attack in Saudi Arabia which killed 19 US Servicemen. They are known to have been involved (either directly or via organizations they support) in many attacks around the world, some of which resulted in the deaths of US citizens. Their support for Shiite groups in the Iraq has led to the death of many US servicemen. So, while they have not explicitly attacked the US (and even that is arguable - see Shahram Poursafi), they have attacked US interests, the US military and US citizens around the world.
