They are 10-8 and the leading scorer is a player the new coach brought in as a transfer.

Admittedly that's not a thorough study but if Gates developed high school players at Cleveland State it isn't readily apparent.

Then there's Shaw - 4 star recruit - averaging 11 minutes and 3 points per game. I look for him to transfer which is the problem with high school recruits during the transfer portal era.

I think Gates will use the transfer portal to fill any remaining scholarships and he might be the perfect coach for the transfer portal era. Bring in transfers who have a limited ability to transfer a second time without repercussions. Put them in the system and turn them loose.

With high school players you don't know whether they will develop and you don't know whether they will transfer.
