Had LSU won the SEC conference championship game, they'd still not be playing in the playoff. They would be "conference champions" in name only. Nothing would have changed - Georgia not LSU would be in the playoff. TCU was undefeated in the regular season. They were for all practical purposes the conferences champion. When there is a substantial difference in the records of the two teams participating in the conference championship game, it becomes essentially a faux championship. Michigan is indeed the B1G championship in all ways and is losing to an apparently better B12 team (game isn't over) that doesn't need to justify their presence. They and not KSU were the best team in that conference. But you know all that.
