He's not being a cookie-cutter coach for sure. It'll make a "believer" out of you. He's a force. And now I don't see how he won't be successful.
Coaches should learn use a lesson or two from him. Even the haters should recognize this - he is faraway the best college coach at using media.

He should be successful, an excellent teacher's coach, but mainly needs 2023 recruits. Their class this year is bad, almost non-existent. He's in a bad spot currently in a new recruiting territory; Dec 21 signing day approacheth.
If he gets over that hump, he might turn UNLV football into a very long-term job...daresay even the Pac-12? UNLV/Mountain West people are saying that their university is "where coaches go to die". But Odom is a non-Deion force in his own way.
