Read the article and read between the lines. Mizzou chickened out playing Kansas. Drink basically admitted it and PowerMizzou by their words tried to soften the blow.
PowerMizzou saying stuff like they really wanted to play prior to Christmas and Liberty Bowl was after Christmas. That is admitting we didn't want to play Kansas.
Secondly PowerMizzou kept saying 'whatever is left of Mizzou and whatever is left of Wake Forest Roster' as to to say this game doesn't actually matter. Thirdly to say no one will even remember this game a month later again another soften the blow of Mizzou actually backing out of playing Kansas.
The ONLY reason Mizzou backed out of playing Kansas is they didn't want to play Kansas after all the portal losses. Drink backed out of playing IOWA in a bowl his first year he knew he was going to get hammered. I think his real rational was get out of the season at 5-5. I think Drink still thinks he's trying to turn the program around and losing to Kansas would generate a lot of instate interest from fans and high school players.
Why showcase an incomplete team lose and damage the program. If Mizzou loses to Wake Forest they'll say EXACT what Gabe said no one cares about Wake Forest we lost a ton of players. Doesn't matter.
If you lose to Kansas no one will forget that so lets skip that game.
That is the ONLY reason this game isn't being played.
Don't give me all this we wanted to play before Christmas you're more worried that your guys would lose and it would hurt your instate fan base, and recruiting.
Sure Drink is going to say we're not afraid of Kansas we booked a game with them in 2025... yeah that is a full roster no loses to the portal.
Question are we going to do this ever year cancel bowl games, or move ourselves to a more favorable matchup because of portal situation?
I guess this is the new reality of College Football.
Now all the haters can say whatever they want but we all know this is the truth. How you feel about skipping a game every fan would love to see is different than admitted Mizzou didn't want to play Kansas.
Facts are facts. Mizzou didn't want to play Kansas. Now you can be one of these people who say I never want to play Kansas... okay. You can also say no Drink said he's not afraid to play anywhere even though he DID ADMIT oh no we wanted our players to be home for Christmas. Okay I guess its not play anywhere anytime then. Okay. Facts are facts Mizzou backed out from playing Kansas because unlike Alabama lets say they don't have depth behind their starters. You lose starters and you're in trouble. Mizzou lost starters to the portal, therefore Drink didn't want to RISK losing a HIGH PROFILE game to Mizzou #1 Rival. Its really is that simple.
Drink has shown his cards about his current roster, he doesn't have faith even after the loses they would win. It really is that simple. I truly believe had they not lost the safety, the wide out, the defensive end, etc he'd be like we're rolling right now lets play.
Kansas is 1-6 in their last 7 games. Mizzou has won 3 of four. I think we'd slaughter Kansas. I have no doubt Mizzou watched the Kansas vs K-State game, looked at the roster loses and said no lets skip the game. Personally I don't agree with it and honestly I think its hurt Drink rep more than risking losing the game.
In closing what was better two 6-6 teams playing with all that bottled up hatred of each other or playing Wake Forest. 20,000 fans will watch us play Wake Forest. A sold out stadium would have watched us play Kansas. TV Ratings for Mizzou vs Wake Forest will be one of the lowest rated bowl games ESPN shows on tv. Kansas vs Mizzou would have been one of their top 10 highest rated games. The national press for Kansas vs Mizzou would have peaked the entire countries interest in watching that game.
DRINK IS NOT DUMB he knew that... he choose not to play! Let that sit in ... yes we'll be called cowards for some time to come.
