To me...guessing when his knee or hip seemed to touch ground, left him just a "whisker" short of line to gain. It's just not clear.

The Mizzou 4th down right before Kentucky got possession
What is more odd is Coach Stoops still going crazy after a running Mizzou punter Jack Stonehouse was spotted a full yard short of line to gain. The announcers are demonstrably perplexed, as well.
From my perspective Stonehouse actually looks very close, because he reached out for it before his foot scraped the sideline.
