if you get into a relationship, you both have jobs, and the wife happens to get promoted faster and higher and ends up being the bread winner? Is he no longer self respecting?

I'll agree with you that society is over-flipped, but I do not think it should also go in reverse to the "traditions" Let people be who they want to be.
