lead us to criminals of color or other protected classes, right?

This is just used to narrow the suspect list and help identify them. This test, in its current form, could not be used to identify the guilty party.

By the way, there is no reason to ever not trust science. Scientists and those relaying scientific information should always be questioned though. Science does not have an agenda, people often do.
