their end was just too difficult. A couple of points. What does Spain know? They have no foreign intelligence capabilities. In fact, they source their energy elsewhere and are not dependent on Russian sources. Additionally, the location of the pipeline sabotage was in shallow coastal waters, too shallow for submarine passage and within the Denmark territorial zone. Nato and Denmark have a substantial array of underwater sensors around this Danish island and they are highly capable of detecting surface and subsurface naval activity. Whoever committed this sabotage had the cooperation of Denmark and Nato. The U.S., GB and Poland are capable and each had motive and opportunity. Russia needed only to shut off the tap and they had no motive or opportunity, given the security provided by the sensor net.
