farming, directly or indirectly, paying to plant, not to plant, issuing edicts that drive crop land to different crops to make money in government funded boondoggles (ethanol) among other things.

Farming is a perfect example of the government dictating what must be done with "their" dollars.

And in regards to taxes, government has first claim on any and all incomes and assets in the United States, be it federal, state or local.

If you don't believe that, don't pay tax on a real estate asset and see who eventually gets title to said asset.
