from Nixon/Ford. Took care of inflation by hiring Volcker at the Fed who cranked up interest rates. Unfortunately that led to the necessary (to bring down inflation) recession that doomed Carter in 1980. Next election was won by a charismatic B-movie actor. Lots of similarities to the present, actually.
