it's not so much direct racism but more anger and resentment towards the idea that being white is no longer the embodiment of being at the top of the heap socially, that blacks are getting ahead of them and they're not happy about that. That doesn't necessarily mean people's direct actions is racism. But it does mean identifying yourself as a victim more often and finding a place to blame others for their own failures.
That is very common these days among white men. They weren't doing all that great twenty years ago and they're not doing all that great now. But now twenty years later they have what they believe is a good excuse. And they're just ****ed off at their own failures.
I'm not saying every white male Trump voter is that way, but you and I both know a lot of them are.
And I'll add...
One of the problems I see that has emerged is that post-Obama, much of the black community still talks about racism like it is the Civil War era. Racism is found everywhere, discussed all the time and that has only made some white people cling more tightly to their whiteness. And I do understand that aspect. Unlike many white folks, however, I do not believe Obama himself stoked those racial tensions, not purposely anyway.
