When you said "meteorologists don't know what the weather is going to do 24 hours in advance"
Papa Nohawks of happy memory played in a memorable MU - kU game in 1950. kU was the better team going into the game, had about a 6-3 record, Mizzou 4-5. kU was the favorite.
The day after Thanksgiving that year was very mild weather wise, in the mid ''60's and the squawks left hawkerville, spent the night in Moberly but when they woke up the next morning a cold front had moved in and the temperature had dropped into the mid teens. kU brought NO cold weather gear, gloves nothing. They fumbled about 8 times, papa Nohawks said he pounced on a couple and we ended up winning 20-6.
I met a guy named Chet Strehlow who was a doctor and was QB of that kU team and all he talked about was how cold it was. He couldn't even grip the ball to pass he said. Absolutely miserable. He said Missouri and Faurot wouldn't share or give any gloves to them. THEN to make matters worse, he said they turned off the heat in the locker room. I was going back and forth between Strehlow and my dad giving them each others messages. The ole man said "BULLSH*T tell Strehlow we offered them, gloves, stockings and hot chocolate at half time but since they were kU, they were too good to take any of our stuff..." Strehlows reply, "..I got one question, who's the guy who turned down the hot chocolate..."
It was a lot of fun, and as an aside, it was Don Fambrough who was a grad assistant for kU who did the asking on their behalf. Out of that experience his hatred for Missouri was really kindled. Fvck Fambrough
