First, the primary revenue source for the NCAA is the media payments for the right to broadcast the Men's NCAA Basketball Tournament. Yes, the one that KU won last spring. It has been suggested that the tournament sponsors have generally not been excited about the possibility of "name" teams getting put on probation and not being able to participate in the tournament. Kansas, the current NCAA Champion, might well fall into that category.
And in another respect, it's probably not the best PR for the NCAA for its current Champion to lose its title for rules violaiton.
