Plausible first CD: Billy Idol - Whiplash Smile ~ Nov 1986.

I remember later on throwing out Peter Gabriel - So & Weather Report - Heavy Weather to force myself to get them on CD. I learned not to do that due to...m-o-n-e-y. My collection of cassettes then started sounding good enough!
I never did rebuy them.
