LOL COVID-19 has nothing to do with snake venom.

Scientists are looking at an enzyme, sPLA2-IIA, found elevated in severe and long COVID patients.

This enzyme is protective against bacterial infections for most people, but can be damaging to organs at high levels.


sPLA2-IIA found in mammals is different than the sPLA2 enzyme in snake venom. But there is hope anti-venoms used to treat snake bites can attack the mammalian sPLA2-IIA found in elevated levels amongst some COVID patients and help treat them.
