embarrassingly manufactured by Smith in the moment. Rock is literally leaning in to take the slap with his hands behind his back and you can see him recoil away from it before it ever gets there, which is exactly how you fake it in the movies. Yes, he made contact, but that's part of a good fake slap.

You're telling me Chris Rock made a joke that clearly p-ssed them off, watch for several seconds as Smith slowly walked up on stage and didn't think once to take a step back or even give him a wtf look? Just leaned in smiling instead? Fake as fvck.
