This is going to come up eventually. I think it’s pretty cool how much Dennis Gates understands and appreciates the history of basketball, in particular black coaching history. I heard him mention John McLendon in an interview who was an assistant for James Naismith and 1st black coach at a predominantly all-white college - Cleveland State.
This article is 10+ years old but it’s timeless. This line got my attention: “Naismith commented that it was the ultimate way to play the game—to always be on the attack on offense and defense, wherever the ball is.”
Attack (pressure) on offense and defense is how HCDG described how we will play.
