took the supply lower than even in past recessions. Combine that with an extended period of weak demand due to the pandemic, and manufacturers stopped making as much stuff. Supply has yet to ramp back up despite increased demand as capacity is lagging because it takes a while for suppliers to make enough parts and hire enough people. It's elementary econ 101.
