She was almost correct. We are interested in this more than other conflicts around the globe. But it is not because of the whiteness of Ukraine, although their women do have an inordinate number of 1s.
This is the first war in my lifetime where a first-world nation was being attacked. It is also the first war to be livestreamed to the world.
When Americans watch the coverage of this war they think 'man that looks just like my neighborhood'. That is what makes this feel more real to us than wars in Iraq, Afghanistan and Africa. This is a western nation that is being attacked, yes they are white but, believe it or not Joy, not everything begins and ends at the surface of the skin.
