I could see our AD asking "what changes are you going to make to field a competitive team next year?" forcing his hand. And if he doesn't have a compelling answer, he will be let go. Maybe he's so stubborn that he'll say "we're just going to keep working hard."
I'm not sure he's capable of attracting good enough assistants to impact recruiting, offensive scheme and execution in game. And he'd have to dump his whole staff in order to do so.
