pumping 50% more currency into the economy just to prop up your reelection bid wasn't based on long term planning.

The oil fiasco was covered below. 22% of our oil and 11% of our gas come from fed lands. 9000 unused oil leases. 75% of the offshore leases haven't produced a drop of oil.
