is a hearing on the FULL order of protection. The petitioner presents their side, with or without the help of an attorney (but an atty is not necessary). the respondent has that same opportunity. the judge will then render a decision on whether to grant the full order (good for 1 year) or deny it.
present whatever evidence you have. police reports, pictures, videos, emails, texts, etc.
if i misunderstood your OP and you're merely applying for an ex-parte you will fill out an affidavit with your allegations and a judge will review it in chambers and decide whether to grant the ex parte.
the ex-parte is good for a few weeks until the hearing however it's not in effect until the respondent is served notice which is usually done by Sheriff's Deuputies or Police but could be done by a private process server too.
