was obviously very athletic. He was strong, quick, could run, etc. But he had very limited basketball skills. He didn't understand how to play the game. He was always thinking about what he should do instead of doing it. He was many times a step behind where he should have been. He was not decisive and confident on his moves and with the ball.
If you've ever played or coached the game you know it's not easy to teach that stuff. It normally has to be learned by the player on his own. Some guys get it early, some it takes longer, some never get it. I'm not surprised JT is looking better now. The more experience he gets the better he'll likely get. He's learning how to actually play.
This is one of the reasons really good players many time don't make the best coaches. It came naturally to most of them and they don't understand how to teach others and get frustrated with players who don't get it.
