The fans were on top of the court, no place was a vertical as that place and the noise rolled downhill. The whole production was amazing - Mini Mizzou, Golden Girls and cheerleaders were produced like a Broadway show. Norm had a lot to do with the atmosphere - it was dramatic and intense, loud and fun. When Norman Ruebling was in charge of Mini Mizzou it was unreal. We did not have a stupid Las Vegas style intro in those days - the fans took care of the intros. And the PA guy was a pro, not a carnival barker in an empty gym. We still have a great supporting team with the cheer squad and Mini Mizzou and Golden Girls - and a great building - but those of us with memories of Hearnes when it was lit up find it even harder to believe what has happened to a once excellent program. There have been great games at the New Paige - about one every 5 years.
