in a presser yesterday, when asked "What are you attributing the rise in crime to then?" She responded "Well, I think we should be responsible in how we're reporting to the public what the, what the, what the uh, roles are, what the reasons are for the surge in crime. Gun violence is a huge reason for the surge in crime."

So wait, did she say

1) it's in part the news media's fault for how they are currently reporting crime

2) that gun violence is a cause, NOT a crime? I thought using a gun to commit a crime is a criminal offense?

Please explain why this message is being reported.
