basketball. Point guard issues and rotation mismanagement aside, 2017-18 was reasonably well coached. The noncon of 2020-21 had terrible shot selection and didn't fully capitalize on our assets but also was rather enjoyable and successful.
Outside of those two brief periods we have been treated to atrocious coaching and overall failure and a largely unenjoyable product for 8 years. There are no longer expectations of even moderate levels of success. This current team is comically untalented and poorly coached, and their appears to be no long term direction or program identity at all.
Those of us who still pay attention to MU basketball, in the face of overwhelming evidence that is not a constructive use of time and energy and passion, are nothing if not patient. This current staff will never get MU back on the right path. They don't have the capacity for it, lost all their momentum into an unrecoverable position, and are too fundamentally limited in too many key areas to ever succeed at a normal level for MU much less overcome the enormous obstacles they inherited.
The team played well and it was unquestionably a good win. I'm very happy for the players working hard and who chose to represent the program. I wish/hoped this would work under this staff. But my patience has clearly shown to me that it didn't and won't. Patience is no longer what is needed.
