Big game tomorrow, our first road test of the SEC season.

Mizzou is 13-2, 2-0, tied with Colorado as the first team outside the top 25, poised to hit the top 25 with a win tomorrow. Our NET ranking is 43 today, and we are sitting on the 7 seed line on the ESPN projected bracket. Looking to move to 3-0 in the conference for the first time since the 2018-19 season.

Arkansas is 10-5, 0-2, has a NET ranking of 29, and is on the 11 seed line on ESPN, as one of the last 4 teams in. They are struggling to find a foothold after losing their top 2 scorers from last season. Their non conference losses were to #11 UConn by 15, and to unranked UCF and Creighton teams.

Arky will be tough at home I think. They led #7 Tennessee at the start of the 4th quarter at home in their opener, before losing by 7. They gave them all they could handle, but shot an awful 8-40 (20%) from the 3 point line. If their 3s are dropping, watch out. Their last game on Thursday they lost at Vandy by 3 points, went 9-33 (27%) from 3s. I thought they would win that game, goes to show how dangerous road games are in this conference.

Some stats fuel for thought:

Arkansas is #6 in the nation in 3 point shots attempted, 408 in 15 games.
Mizzou is #49 in the nation, with 313 3s in 15 games.

We are #14 in the nation in 3 point FG % at 37.4%.
Arky is #97 in the nation in 3 point FG % at 33%.

We are #6 in the nation in FG% at 47.6%.
Arky is #145 in the nation at 41.1%.

Arky is #6 in the nation with only 11.3 TOs a game.
We are #71 in the nation in TOs with 14.4 a game.

Arky is going to play their typical up and down style of game, and throw up a lot of shots and a lot of 3 pointers. We don’t want to get into that kind of game with them, I think we want more of a controlled half court style. Not that we can’t run the fast break when it’s open. But we are a better shooting team than them, and we need to be patient, slow the game down, and pound the ball inside to Williams and Blackwell, while taking the open 3s by Frank and Hansen when available.

Not trying to jinx us, lol, but I like Mizzou to win a tough one on the road against a dangerous home team.
