Tilmon's first couple years his development was stunted by the ridiculous targeting of the officiating. Can't say I've ever seen anything like it. Like most young big men, did he need to polish his footwork and temperament to adjust to the college game to avoid fouling? Absolutely. Did the SEC officials come after him like he was Rasheed Wallace whistling him for seemingly any contact he had with his man he was guarding? Sadly, yes. As a result he spent much of the time his first couple years on the bench in foul trouble. You can call that negligent coaching if you want, but his whole approach to basketball had to be changed so he didn't accrue two fouls in the first five minutes of the opening half.
