came to light, they mean that they could no longer keep quiet what they had known for months.
The cat was out of the bag, the jig was up, the curtain had been pulled back. There was no, “new“ information in my opinion. It was like wild about Clinton and the blue dress. The media sources knew about that but eventually it became too difficult to cover up any longer.
That in my opinion, is what happened here.
