He went to the Patriots knowing that the NCAA was sniffing around OU. There had been transcripts altered for several recruits to make them eligible for scholarship.

OU went on probation for two years when they had maybe the best team in the country.

On a MU related note, Fairbanks almost took an assistant coaching job under Devine but OU promoted him to coordinator. Then the head coach died and he was made head coach at OU.
