they are contantly faced with sciene that contradicts things they want to do, so they respond with vaguaries like "socialism, freedom, elitism, eggheads, ivory towers", things that cant be proven or disproven and will rile the tribe and mean nothing but will stick in someone's head if repeated over and over
its how they support wars like vietnam and iraq
also when a corporation give you a sh*tpile of money to vote on or make a law that is detrimental to the voters, then you have to explain it to them. You cant. so you use those meaningless words to explain why golbal warming isnt happening, communists are coming, and science is looking down its nose at you.
its also beneficial to keep those people uneducated and working as much as possible
