The prosecutor was put in a difficult position. Public outcry was that charges be filed, immediately, before the police and prosecutor even have an opportunity to gather and consider evidence.
Given the choice of filing charges or having the angry mob wait outside your office and house, seems like a simple enough choice.
The ADA who was prosecuting this had a ****ty hand to play and in my opinion did not only a terrible job but a dishonest job in playing it.
