classes because of "disadvantage", then they should be in remedial classes until they have the prerequisites needed.
There is nothing wrong with not taking Calc 1 your first semester of college, if you want to he an engineer, and don't have the math skills. It is ok to take College Algebra or whatever.
You don't pass them through Calc 1 just because they didn't get a good foundation in algebra in high school.
