The shots do not have an instantaneous effect.
This is also why 36% of people never develop antibodies from an infection. There are two parts to the immune system. Innate and adaptive.
The innate immune system are the existing t-cells. The adaptive immune system are antigen specific antibodies. If the infection is cleared in a few days by the t cells, there won't necessaeily be antibodies production.
It takes 2-3 weeks for antibodies levels to be ramped up enough to be detected during an initial infection/vaccination.
That is why you aren't considered fully vaccinated until 2 weeks past the last shot.
As part of the adaptive immune system once antibodies have been produced, memory cells are formed. That way if memory cells detect a particular antigen, they signa the body to immediately start producing specific antibodies.
