abuses in terms of unpaid overtime, forced overtime often resulting in 12 hour shifts, and other issues.
All 7 independently and without the knowledge of each other went outside the chain of command to complain to the city personnel manager. This went up to the city manager, who then blind-sided the police administration with inquiries and an investigation into the abuses.
While the PD had to finally give in and pay OT for time where officers were required to be present (such as report writing at the end of shift, which often was as much as 4 hours) they made life miserable for those suspected of going outside the chain of command.
Had a friend who got promoted and disclosed his first Sgt's meeting involved going down the roster sharing any dirt on those suspected of being involved.
What's even funnier is the department rolled it into an IAB investigation where someone had been leaking information to the media on a high-profile homicide investigation. Joke was on them because the leak turned out to be someone in the DA's office.
