Sadly, I think you are correct. There seems to be a de facto, statute of limitations in elections.

And presidents can be impeached for high crimes and misdemeanors committed while in office, but that would only apply to presidents seeking reelection. Whispering Joe would be unimpeachable, in my opinion. And I suppose little people could go to jail, or in the case of Marxists, get their wrists slapped.

But whatever damage has been done will likely remain intact.
