Would you have disarmed the Afghans before they dropped their weapons and ran?

WTF were we doing there - the Afghan people had no interest in "defending" themselves against the Taliban. 20 years, and they couldn't/wouldn't build an army/fight for democracy. Even the prior administration foresaw the collapse, when they excluded the Afghan government from surrender talks with the Taliban - and freed 5,100 taliban prisoners.

We had no business propping up a government there - they don't want it. If the Taliban acts up, drop bombs, don't put boots on the ground.
