sample of the 25 patients in the ICU at a large KC hospital (this is across 4 different ICUs). This is a large academic instution that also offers advanced respiratory therapies (i.e. ECMO) that most hospital ICUs cannot handle so we get the sickest of the sick.
21/25 were unvaccinated (84%). Mean age: 43.3 (Range: 22-63). Age gets skewed down based off a couple very sick post-partum moms that got sick near the end of their pregnancy - not sure why, but those gals get really sick when they get Covid.
Of the 4 vaccinated patients (Mean age: 71, range: 55-89). One was a heart transplant recipient - so very immunocompromised and obviously would be a candidate for a 3rd shot now, 2 are very old (77 and 89) and one is just a mess (55 y/o DM, COPD, kidney disease, etc)
