Trump originally said may 1st and Biden pushed it back until aug 31st. But the agreement gives the us the protection of a ceasefire. The Taliban has upheld their promises. If the us stays past the date then the Taliban may or may not continue to provide access to the airport, security for us personnel, etc. Basicaly, the Talibans patience may run out and it turns into a shooting war again. Something not in the interest of either the us or the Taliban.
