because at some point it becomes really obvious that all of the vaccinated people aren't getting sick and all the hospitals are full of unvaccinated people. My sister is a hospital doctor in Springfield. She said half of her intensive care patients with Covid are under 40 (and the unit is nearly full). Oh, and every one of them is unvaccinated.
As to your point, yes, people have gotten rich of this. In fact, I am indirectly getting rich(er) off of it. My family is benefitting from investments made by pharma companies flush with cash due to government programs and high sales related to covid. This is a good thing. We WANT the free market to help us solve these problems. They can do it faster and better than the government alone. And allowing them a profitable return drives interest.
Given that we had an approved vaccine in about a year from discover, and less than a year from declaring a pandemic, I'd say it worked.
