OK. Here's what's up with the 2nd Amendment

1. The folks starting this govt were devoted to the idea of a militia.
They were devoted to the idea of all citizens being part-time militia members. The idea of a "well-regulated militia being necessary to defend a free State" was to dispense with the idea of keeping a standing army, which the fathers thought of as dangerous.
2. The primary goal of this amendment was to prevent the formation of a standing army.
3. This amendment was not ever about individual gun rights. This was always about the ability of members of the militia to have guns. If yiu were not members of the militia, the founding fathers didn't want you to have a gun. Blacks and indigenous peoples were not allowed to have guns, for example, because they also weren't allowed in the militia.
3. The fathers were VERY concerned about who could and couldn't have guns.
Militias inspected slave quarters for weapons and confiscated them. Non-whites basically were not allowed to have guns.
So basically, if you were the member of a well-regulated militia, you could bear arms. If you were not in the militia, you could not own a gun.
