some of the basic engines found in Chevy, Ford, and Ram have similar numbers. Ford's 2.7 ecoboost has very similar numbers. I think the Ford Ranger has one of the better towing ratings in the mid-size range and they top out at 7500. I'm not hating on mid-sizes, b/c they have their place. If you're not wanting a huge cabin, but decent bed size, the Tacoma crew cab 6' bed is a great all around truck and a few thousand cheaper than full size.
