As to the specific timing, First Ramadan provided the environment for provokations to be especially effective. Second, Covid restrictions provide a limited degree of plausible deniability to claims that the provokations were part of a program of ethnic cleansing. No one actually would believe that claim, but they can posture as believing it which is all elites need.
Another factor could be recent surrender of the gulf states to making any pretense of opposing settler colonialism in the occupied territories.
But the bottom line is that after occupying these areas for over 50 years, no one actually believes this isn't anything but settler colonialism. Which has embolded the hard core miltants in Israel to figure might as well acceleration the process. As no one will mount any real resistance.
