It was an unnamed 'law enforcement source'. You have no idea if that person was even at the scene or where their information is coming from.
The other version named the eye witness.
You may be 100% certain that the eyewitness was not as close to the situation as the cops were, but you have no idea how close they were compared to the "law enforcement source".
