speech expert discussed identifying speech patterns. He said the letter R was very telling and that well educated and sophisticated people pronounce all of the Rs in “recorder”.
The lower classes and dimwits pronounce it RE-CAW-DAH.
Average people pronounce it RE-COR-DAH.
Educated people of course pronounce all three Rs.
I mentioned this to a recent college graduate that I know, hoping to help him avoid being perceived as being less than stellar intellectually, and he told me that he had a speech impediment as a child, and the R was the most difficult thing for him to master.
And I agree with you, that when people speak poorly, or in the case of this board, write poorly, it reveals their intellect as well as their education. And for dullards like asstray for example, and undermines their credibility.
Stupid people speak and write poorly.
