What's the "fair" share?

If ~50% of people pay little or no income tax, that would mean anyone paying *anything* would be paying something fair, right?

I mean, if you and I go out to dinner and split the bill by each paying the same amount, that would be roughly fair, wouldn't it? Of course if you had two hamburgers and I had one hamburger to eat then a 50/50 split suddenly seems more fair to you than it does to me.

Really the only way to say what is "fair" in this case is what has been deemed legal. We can all argue about what we each think a legally "fair" way to tax people is - maybe there's multiple ways, but if you're paying what the law requires, I'd consider that to be "fair".

NOW, when politicians refer to "FAIR" they refer instead to "MORE".

Why the dishonesty or sleight of hand on their part?
