was in reference to the New York data, although I have no idea of the accuracy of the yearly numbers provided by the Census bureaus nor the past correlations to the actual census.

When the final numbers were released, the bureau itself (as well as the times leading up to the census release) said that last year's census had a lot of issues because of various COVID crap, so having some estimates versus actual number differences could have been expected...but of course the author tries to cherry pick blue vs red states to meet his point of the article.
