not have heard, am reading a short, very interesting book called "Outlaw Tales of Missouri" by Sean Mclachlin. I already knew that civilian fighting during and after the Civil War was the worst by far in the country but it was much worse than I realized. And it had nothing to do with blacks. Just generally Union vs. confederate as well as simply lawless gangs who could do what they wanted and did. Got stories from early 1800's to the 1950's.

So far haven't found anyone from my family yet.
