1. I'd like for fewer people to be killed by police.
2. I'd like for policing to be of the highest quality.
3. I'd like for police to be able to ensure their own safety, to the highest degree possible.
It's well known that there are more white dudes shot by police than black dudes, or hispanic dudes, or asian dudes. The counterpoint to this is that there are more black dudes shot by police, per capita. The counterpoint to that is that black dudes seem to be in areas that are more heavily policed because there's higher crime, and the counterpoint to all of that is that black dudes are profiled by the police.
Forget all of that for a moment.
In 2020, 457 white dudes were shot by the police. (I say dudes, but they're really like 96% dudges). In 2021, so far there have been 50.
Without Googling, can anyone name, say, 3 of them? I sure can't.
Yet damn near anyone in this country can name 3 black dudes who have been shot by the police in the past year and a half.
Why is that the case?
